50th Post Competition! THIS COMPETITION NOW CLOSED
Thanks for stopping by, but this competition is now closed, to see the winner go here. Look for a new competition in the coming weeks.
So this here post, the one you are reading right now, at least I hope you are reading it, is officially my 50th post. To commemorate this wondrous feat (at least to me), I am announcing my first ever competition! I've been storing up book swag and loot for awhile now and have been waiting for a suitably grand occasion. Right now you are probably thinking, whatever the occasion, just get to the prizes, and I'm getting there...so prizes you asked? You probably guessed it by the lovely picture above, but the prize is a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble! You know you want it! All those books you could get....Now onto "THE RULES."
The Rules:
1. Open to EVERYONE, just because you haven't been following me all along doesn't mean you don't matter.
2. Please make sure I have a way to contact you if your name is drawn, either your blogger profile or a link to your website/blog or you could even include your email address with your comment(s).
3. Contest ends Monday, August 31st at 11:59PM CST
4. How to enter:
Answer me this: In honor of the end of summer and the beginning of another school year...What is your favorite Summer Read? Doesn't have to have been read this summer, but what book evokes the true spirit of summer to you? Harry Potter perhaps? Charlotte's Web by chance? A thriller verses a classic? A true beach read? I want to know!
5. And for those addicted to getting extra entries:
- +1 for answering the question above
- +2 for becoming a follower
- +5 if you are already a follower (yes you lucky 5 people you!)
- +10 for each time you advertise this contest - blog post, sidebar, twitter (please @MzLizard), etc. Also please leave a link!
+1 All time favorite summer read has to be Wally Lamb's SHE'S COME UNDONE!
+2 Just became a follower (was hard for me to find it, but I did--up top!)
Thanks for letting me enter and congrats on your 50 posts and giveaway!

+1 This is a hard choice so I'm going to have to pick two books, pretend they are siamese twins, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas because summer is free of distractions so I got caught up in the life of Edmond Dantes and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss ties with CoMC for my favorite summer read, because it's fantasy, it didn't feel like required reading, plus it just absorbed me heart and soul.

+1 When I think of summer reads, I think of light frothy stuff. I don't do a ton of light or frothy, so I guess for me, summer is a time to indulge in some YA (which is as close to light as I get). That and series books that I can fly through (the guilty pleasure ones like Anita Blake or Women of the Otherworld)

A reread of all of them back to back or just Half Blood Prince or Deathly Hallows (my two favourite in the series) - I am a HP fanatic... they never cease to draw me into that brilliant world and make me pray for a Time Turner to go back to age 11 and a potrkey to send me to Hogwarts!

Summer read? Is there a better time to read certain books? Is this like the question "If you could only take five books...?"
I just spent 7 weeks reading winter books so maybe I'm not the best one to answer that ;-)
Any book that keeps my attention is a good book. Favorite? Can't do it. I seem to be on a cat sleuth kick though, must be the challenge :-)

You have so many wonderful books mentioned on your site, so many of my abosolute favorites-- I'm so glad this contest brought your blog to my attention. Anyone who loves The Westmark books. Wives and Daughters, Thursday Next *and* Edward Eager's Half Magic books has GOT to be good people. Half Magic was actually going to be my pick here, for great summer reads, because I read it a couple summers ago with my reading students, but since you've mentioned it here already I'll go with
+1-- Ronia the Robber's Daughter by Astrid Lindgren. Absolutely delectable book about the children of two warring bands of robbers becoming best friends in a magic wood chock full of gnomes and harpies and all other kinds of fascinating things. I love it with all my heart.

How cool a reading blog!! Anyway I haven't really read a book this summer - new baby and all. But last summer my beach reading was all historical. I love Stephen Ambrose's Louis and Clark or anything on the revolution and the war of 1812. My last favorite book, which I recommend to everyone is: Candy Bombers - The untold story of the Berin airlift and America's finest hour by Andrei Cherny.

+1 Bill says "Sophie's World" by by Jostein Gaarder, which we both read a bunch of summers ago. A YA novel about the history of philosophy...
+1 A few summers ago I read one amazing book after another as Bill & I travelled in Europe. Most of the books I got from the "trade" shelves in hostels and hotels. I'll recommend this one, because I bet no one has heard of it: "A Short History of Tractors in Ukranian" Marina Lewycka . A very, very funny novel.

Wow, what a great contest!
+1- My favorite summer read is by far The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. I am 22, and totally outside the demographic of the books, but I 'grew up' with Bee, Lena, Tibby, and Carmen. I love the strong friendships the girls share in the books.

I'm beyond blog-challenged, which says something for a techie who writes one... but I managed to figure this commenting thing out!
+1 Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan... there really is no comparison. It was beautiful and moving and everything in between.
+2/+5 Well, I did just join as a "follower" BUT I think I certainly deserve the +5 (maybe +7!) for being a subscriber on RSS since Day 1! Ahem. I mean, what's with all this new-fangled follower stuff, anyway?
+10 I am going to post about it right now. I've been a bad blogger and perhaps this will help stir up my cauldron of writing inspiration again.
Who can resist prezzies?! Erm, you better know my contact info, Miss Eliza!

Though it is a good read anytime of the year, I like The Land Remembers: The Story of a Farm and Its People by Ben Logan. Fills me with nostalgia for my grandparents farm where I spent many summers playing.

- Anne of Green Gables! And the other books in the series too.
5. And for those addicted to getting extra entries:
* +1 for answering the question above

Well, I just finished all of Augusten Burroughs this past month, while staying by the sea here in Jersey. Part of me thinks he's a horrendous person, but I laughed on the beach all the way thru the three books. LOL.
